Registered Nurse (RN) – Dillingham, Alaska – Bristol Bay Area Health Corporation

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. A registered nurse with a current license in any U.S. State or Territory; must become licensed in Alaska within one year following hire.
  2. Must be able to maintain a professional standard of ethics at all times.
  3. Must observe confidentiality regulations as established by BBAHC Policy, State of AK and Federal Law.
  4. Prefer a minimum of two years-experience.
  5. Knowledge of native culture preferred and cultural sensitivity.
  6. Ability to initiate, coordinate and complete quality monitoring forms and submit reports to appropriate person.
  7. Must demonstrate knowledge principles of growth and development over the lifespan (e.g., pediatric/adult/geriatric) and possess the ability to access data reflective of the patient’s status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient/family requirements relative to his/her age specific needs, and to provide the care needed.
  8. Be able to travel to villages as necessary.
  9. Basic Life Support required.
  10. ACLS and PALs required to staff the Emergency Department.
  11. NRP preferred for L&D staffing.
  12. TNCC preferred for Emergency Department staffing.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Management of Inpatient/ER Services.
  2. Demonstrate awareness of cultural differences.
  3. Acts as charge nurse as assigned. Assigns nursing care to team members in accordance with patient’s needs and the personnel’s capabilities and qualifications and assigns other duties as needed.
  4. Initiates and completes individualized nursing plans of care.
  5. Participates in orientation of new personnel and performance evaluations of nursing staff.
  6. Coordinates nursing care of patients when scheduled for therapy or procedures by other departments.
  7. Participates actively in the improvement of nursing care.
  8. Accountable for own conduct; promotes good working relationships among staff and other disciplines. Fosters good public relations for Inpatient/ER and BBAHC.
  9. Assumes responsibility for own personal continuing education and development needs, attends meetings, in-services, and conventions to enrich personal knowledge, growth and skill in providing clinical care of patients.
  10. Maintains the standard of nursing care and implements the policies and procedures of BBAHC and Nursing Department.
  11. Assesses the patient’s condition and nursing needs; sets goals; plans appropriate nursing actions to meet those goals and the physical, psychological, social and rehabilitative needs of the patient including discharge planning.
  12. Assesses patients using Nursing Assessment skills and techniques.
  13. Ensures proper Infection Control measures are initiated as needed based upon the patient’s assessed need.
  14. Assesses and manages pain in accordance with the Physician orders and patient’s needs.
  15. Provides culturally appropriate care that is in line with the Physician’s orders and patient’s cultural beliefs. Seeks clarification when/if there may be a conflict between the two.
  16. Reports pertinent observations and reactions regarding patients to the appropriate person and records these observations accurately and concisely.
  17. Administers medications and performs treatments to assigned patients.
  18. Directs, supervises and evaluates nursing care provided to patients.
  19. Assists providers with special tests and procedures.
  20. Participates in economical utilization of supplies and ensures that equipment in maintained in a clean and safe manner.
  21. Assists team members in providing care for patients and provides direct care when professional skills and judgment are needed.
  22. Establishes and maintains communication and utilizes teaching opportunities with patients, family members, and staff.
  23. Assists with and institutes emergency measures for sudden adverse developments.
  24. Participates in the maintenance of a clean and safe environment.
  25. Competently performs as a medevac escort, managing patient care, equipment, supplies, and documents in a concise, systematic and efficient manner.
  26. Competently performs as the ER nurse providing emergency services.
  27. Manages telephone triage of patients, families and Health Aides in a competent professional manner.
  28. Competently provides primary nursing care for assigned group of patients, ranging in age from newborn to geriatrics.
  29. Performs other duties as assigned.
